Google Play screenshot sizes, requirements and design tips (2026)

Exact Google Play screenshot rules — dimensions, formats, how many — plus the 1080px requirement for Play’s recommendation spots and what makes the first three convert.

Key takeaways

  • Upload 2–8 screenshots per device type, JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no transparency).
  • Each side between 320px and 3,840px; the long side at most twice the short side.
  • To be eligible for Play’s recommendation formats you need at least four screenshots of 1080px or more (1080×1920 portrait / 1920×1080 landscape).
  • The first 2–3 screenshots decide most installs — lead with the benefit, in big text.

The requirements

2–8
screenshots per device type
320–3,840px
allowed side length
2:1
max ratio of long to short side
1080×1920
recommended portrait size
  • Formats: JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha channel.
  • Recommendation eligibility: at least four screenshots at 1080px minimum — 1080×1920 (9:16) portrait or 1920×1080 (16:9) landscape.
  • Upload separate sets for tablets and other form factors if you support them.

What converts

  1. Screenshot 1 = your main benefit, in 4–7 words of large caption text.
  2. Screenshots 2–3 = the next two reasons to install, each with its own caption.
  3. Show real UI, but cropped and zoomed so it’s readable on a phone.
  4. Keep one visual style and colour system across all images.
  5. Localise captions for your biggest non-English markets.
  6. Save onboarding, settings and login screens for last — or leave them out.

Seasonal screenshots

For Diwali, Ramadan, Christmas or Black Friday, a festive first screenshot in a custom store listing can lift conversion without touching your main listing. Plan it 2–3 weeks ahead.
