The best ASO tools for Google Play in 2026: an honest comparison for indie developers
AppTweak, Appfigures, AppFollow, ASOMobile, Play Console and ASODrift compared on what matters to a small Android team: Google Play keyword tracking, alerts, price and how much you actually need.
Key takeaways
- If you only publish on Google Play and mainly need to know where you rank, you don’t need an enterprise suite.
- Play Console is free and essential, but it doesn’t show your position for a keyword.
- AppTweak and Appfigures are strong all-rounders with iOS support and market data, priced for teams.
- ASODrift is built for Google Play only: daily ranks in 60+ countries, next-morning alerts and a free plan, with paid plans from $12 a month.
- Pick by the job you need done, then by budget. Most indie developers need tracking and alerts first.
Disclosure: ASODrift is our product. We’ve tried to be fair about the other tools, including where they are the better choice.
Most “best ASO tools” lists are written by vendors ranking themselves first. This one is too, in a sense. So instead of a ranking, here’s what each tool is good at, who it suits, and what it costs, so you can decide for yourself.
What an indie Android developer actually needs
- Your exact position for your important keywords, per country, every day.
- A heads-up when a keyword drops, before it shows up in installs.
- Enough competitor context to understand why rankings moved.
- Help deciding what to change in your listing.
- A price that makes sense against what your app earns.
Market-wide download estimates, ad intelligence and App Store support are valuable, but many small Android teams never use them. Paying for them is where budgets go.
The tools at a glance

| Appfigures | App Store + Google Play | Analytics, revenue and ASO in one place | Entry plans are cheap; ASO tiers from about $150/month |

Google Play Console (free)
Start here. Play Console’s acquisition reports show how many people visited your listing, how many installed, and which search terms brought them. That’s data no outside tool can see.
What it doesn’t show is your position for a keyword. It won’t tell you that you slid from #6 to #19 for “budget planner” in India last Tuesday. That’s the gap rank trackers fill.
ASODrift
ASODrift does one store well. It checks your exact top-100 position for every keyword in each country you pick, every night, and emails you the next morning when a keyword drops or leaves the top 10. Around that it adds a visibility score, keyword opportunities, a listing timeline for you and your competitors, a listing audit, and AI suggestions built from your real ranks and reviews.
- Good fit: indie developers and small studios on Google Play, agencies reporting on Android client apps.
- Not a fit: you need App Store data, download and revenue estimates for other apps, or ad intelligence.
- Price: free for 1 app and 5 keywords; Base $12, Premium $29, Gold $59 a month.
AppTweak
AppTweak is one of the most complete ASO platforms: keyword research with volume estimates, market intelligence, creative analysis, Apple Ads management and AI agents. If you run ASO across both stores with a team, it’s a strong choice.
For a solo Android developer it’s often more than needed, and the entry plan (about $79 a month when we checked) costs more than many small apps earn.
Appfigures
Appfigures combines your own analytics and revenue from both stores with ASO and competitor intelligence. It’s excellent if you want one dashboard for downloads, revenue and keywords. The deeper ASO and competitor features sit in higher tiers.
AppFollow
AppFollow is best known for review management: replying to reviews, tagging and automation across both stores. It also covers keyword tracking. If reviews are your main pain, look here first.
ASOMobile
ASOMobile offers a broad toolkit with a free tier and relatively low paid plans across both stores. Worth a look if you want keyword research with volume estimates on a budget.
How to choose
| If you… | Start with |

| Publish on both stores and want one ASO tool on a budget | ASOMobile or AppFollow |

| Run ASO and Apple Ads at scale with a team | AppTweak |
| Manage many client Android apps and send monthly reports | ASODrift Gold |
+What is the best ASO tool for Google Play?
It depends on the job. For daily Google Play keyword ranks and drop alerts on a small budget, ASODrift is built for exactly that. For multi-store teams, AppTweak and Appfigures are more complete. Play Console is essential for everyone.
+Is there a free ASO tool for Google Play?
Yes. Play Console is free, and ASODrift, ASOMobile and AppFollow have free plans. ASODrift’s free plan tracks 1 app and 5 keywords daily.
+Do I need an ASO tool if I have Play Console?
Play Console shows which search terms brought installs, not your position for a keyword or when it changes. A rank tracker fills that gap.
+What is the cheapest ASO tool for Android?
Among paid plans we compared, ASODrift starts at $12 a month for 3 apps and 50 keywords. Several tools also have free tiers.
