Metadata policy
Google Play’s rules for titles, icons, developer names and descriptions.
What is Metadata policy?
The metadata policy governs what you can put in listing text and graphics. For example, titles, icons and developer names must not contain claims about store performance or ranking (“#1”, “Top”), price or promotional information (“Free”, “Sale”), emoji or repeated special characters, or ALL CAPS unless part of the brand.
Why it matters for ASO
Violations can lead to rejected updates or removal — and misleading listings erode trust.
How to improve it
- Check titles and short descriptions before publishing.
- Keep claims factual and verifiable.
- Use a listing checker to catch common issues.
